We support marriage equality

February 2017

Helping Hand has joined a growing number of not-for-profit organisations, corporate businesses and high profile individuals making a public statement in support of marriage equality.

As outlined in a letter from Angela Littleford, Helping Hand’s General Manager Metropolitan Division:

‘Since 2015 we have been working towards becoming an LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex) inclusive agency where everyone is welcome, equal and included. We support diversity in the workplace and recognise the right of our LGBTI employees, volunteers and clients to live and work free of prejudice and discrimination. This includes the right to marry the partner of their choice.’

September 2017

Helping Hand publicly promotes respect for equality, diversity and choice in our relationships with all those for whom we provide care and support. We also aspire to those same values in our relationships with our colleagues.

So, in the current community debate on marriage equality, we respect the absolute right of every individual – including our clients and colleagues – to have and express their own views on these matters.

During the period of the marriage equality plebiscite, our website and social media outlets will show the Helping Hand logo with a “rainbow” element.

We have chosen to do this as an expression of our organisation’s belief in those values of equality, diversity and choice, and to recognise the range of views in our community.

Ian Hardy

Chief Executive
