Helping Hand North Adelaide is holding an intergenerational playgroup each Wednesday during school terms in partnership with Playgroup SA.
Launched in February 2017 the playgroup, called The Learning Tree, creates a space for children and their parents to actively engage with Helping Hand residents, supported by Helping Hand Lifestyles staff.
‘It is wonderful to see how the children and residents are drawn to each other and can participate in activities sometimes entirely intuitively – without needing much or any conversation,’ said Helping Hand North Adelaide Lifestyles and Volunteer Coordinator Julie Kahl.
During a visit to The Learning Tree in March, Playgroup SA Support and Development Coordinator Alicia Beames described it as: ‘A great role model for other facilities looking at establishing their own Intergenerational Playgroup.
‘I’m extremely proud of how smooth and well-run the session is,’ she continued.
‘The smiles and interactions between children and residents is a pleasure to see.’
All families with children aged up to 6 are welcome every Wednesday 10am-12pm during school terms at Helping Hand North Adelaide – 49 Buxton Street.
