We offer respite care in your home, meeting individual health and care needs in a comfortable, familiar place.

In the community

Day groups are available in metropolitan Adelaide in a community setting. Depending on the person’s interests, we can also arrange outings – this may include a trip to the beach, going out for coffee or a drive through the hills.

Carer support

Caring for someone is rewarding, but can also be challenging. Our social work team can provide a supportive space to share stories and ask questions. We cover a range of topics to support carers, including the value of carers, the benefits and challenges, the changes in caring, celebrating relationships, taking care of yourself and more.

Residential respite care

Residential respite care is available at all of our eleven Helping Hand aged care homes. With stays starting at two weeks, carers have the time to take a well earned break and can even go on a holiday.

Guests have their own rooms with private ensuite and have access to the facilities and activities of the home during their stay.

The cost of Help at Home depends on your assessed needs, funding type, services used and any personal contribution. Some people may access government-funded support through My Aged Care, while others may pay privately. Costs can vary for personal care, cleaning, nursing, transport, allied health and respite.

Yes. Helping Hand can arrange residential care home tours by appointment. Visiting a home can help you understand the environment, rooms, shared spaces, lifestyle activities and whether the home feels right for you or your family member. Entry requirements may change depending on current health or government advice. Virtual tours are also available for some homes on the residential care locations page.

Aged care nursing at home provides clinical support for older people who need health-related care while remaining at home. Services may include wound care, medication support, continence care, health monitoring, recovery support and coordination with GPs or other health professionals.

Transition Care, also known as TCP, offers up to 12 weeks of short-term support to help older people recover safely after a hospital stay. Support may include physiotherapy, personal care, nursing and help returning home. Hospital staff can help arrange an assessment while you are still an inpatient, or you can contact My Aged Care yourself.

The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) provides entry-level support, while Support at Home is the government program for people with more ongoing or complex support needs. CHSP may help with basic services such as cleaning, transport or social support. Support at Home can include a broader range of services based on assessed needs and funding approval.
