Travis : Care Worker and Team Mentor in Port Pirie – Helping Hand

Travis

Travis, care worker Port Pirie

Travis has been with Helping Hand for two and a half years as a carer in Port Pirie, and is a Team Mentor. He was born and raised in Port Pirie by his Nan.

Travis never thought about working in aged care, but one day he was visiting his Nan at Helping Hand Lealholme and watched a young man who was a carer assisting one of the residents with their meal. ”I thought how amazing and awesome it be would to do that, I love elderly people.”

After that encounter Travis went to TAFE and studied to become a carer. “If Nan wasn’t in an aged care home, I never would have gone down this path.

“I am very lucky to work for Helping Hand, they have the clients and staff at heart. From day one I felt welcomed by everyone, and I love getting recognition from the organisation on my work anniversaries.

“I have the best clients, I think of all of them as my friends. I love going to their homes and providing a service, and I go home every day feeling rewarded.”

The Helping Hand Team Mentor program is a way to recognise role models within our workforce. It provides an opportunity for staff and managers to nominate team members who role model great customer service, are positive and helpful, and generously share their wisdom, knowledge and experience with others.
