Thanks to a generous Gift in his Will from the late Mr Arthur Horner, residents of Lealholme Residential Care Home in Port Pirie are enjoying a wonderful new café.
Arthur, who lived at Lealholme, left a gift to Helping Hand without specific instructions about how it should be used. We took great care to honour both his generosity and his connection to the place he called home.
We spoke with people who knew Arthur, listened to residents and staff, and carefully considered how his gift could create the greatest and most enduring impact.
The result is Arthur’s Café – a welcoming space designed to encourage connection and conversation and where residents, families, staff and visitors can relax over a cup of tea or coffee and enjoy light refreshments together.
Helping Hand Chief Executive Officer Chris Stewart said the café was a welcome addition to Lealholme.
“Most of our homes have fully operational cafés onsite, and until now we haven’t been able to upgrade the existing café area at Lealholme,” Chris said.
“Arthur’s Café provides a wonderful space for people to come together, enjoy each other’s company and feel connected to the wider community.”
Arthur’s Café opened in June 2026 and has quickly become part of daily life at Lealholme.
